Porter and I took many classes together, mainly accounting. We studied together. Our Moms were friends. He was brilliant and ended up with a high position with the State of California. I remember his sense of humor - he was funny - always cracked me up. I heard he had a heart problem that he knew about and so before he passed away he retired and made numerous trips, all by train, to every major league baseball stadium in the US. Way to go Porter! I still miss my good friend Porter. I first met Porter when my family moved to the Land Park area in 1955. I was 10 and he was in my 5th grade class at Riverside School. I remember Porter was one of the smartest kids in my class. I lived just around the corner from him. We spent a lot of time together as kids. We played a lot of baseball together after school at Riverside School. We collected baseball cards together. We both had Sacramento Bee paper routes adjacent to each other, we both landed jobs at Glaser Brother, a candy and tobacco company off Richards Boulevard during our junior and senior year of high school, and we both worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles part-time during our college days. We both ended up working for the State of California after graduation. Porter distinguished himself by becoming an Agency Secretary. We stayed in touch throughout our careers and after retirement. I was so saddened by his death. I spoke at Porter's funeral.
always so sad to hear of a fellow classmate passing. knew of porter at school as a very polite , small chuckels at stupid jokes,. a good friend even if you hardly knew him . everyone was his friend.
