Thomas Waters

Thomas “Tom” K. Waters of Zilwaukee, Michigan 

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, June 4, 2021, at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison, following a lengthy illness. Thomas Kenneth Waters was born on September 10, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late H. Kenneth and Eleanor Jean (Billsby) Waters. He was a proud 1964 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Tom married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Joan Kay Loeffler, on March 27, 1965. In July 1965, Tom began working for Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 5, retiring in 1997 after 32 years of loyal and dedicated service. Upon retirement, he began working parttime for Larry’s Auto Supply. Tom was a 26-year member of the City of Zilwaukee Fire Department, serving five of those years as chief. He was also a member of the Zilwaukee Public Utility Board. Above all, he loved and cherished watching his grandchildren as they participated in various activities.  

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Joan K. Waters of Zilwaukee; daughter Wendy Abramson of Niagara, WI; son, Scott (Jill Wendzik) Waters of Zilwaukee; 11 grandchildren: Aubrey (Dan) Adams, Logan Waters, Maggie, Mason, Cassandra, Patrick, Hunter, Madison, Timmy, Jaxson, and Justice; sister, Beth Durow; and a sister-in-law, Janet Loeffler. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family: Tracy Waters, Kathryn Waters, Beverly Schultz, David and Echo Kabobel, and Barb Kobobel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Kenneth and Eleanor Waters; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Gertrude Loeffler; son-in-law, Kenneth Abramson; brother-in-law, Mark Durow; brother- and sister-in-law, Robert and Suzanne Waters; and nephew, Brook Waters. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and all the personnel at Covenant HealthCare 6th floor ICU for all the excellent care they provided to Tom, as well as for the empathy, compassion, and support they have given to his family. 

Honoring Tom’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced in the coming days and take place at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Aldersgate Methodist Church or the ASPCA. I'm so sorry to hear of Toms passing. Joan I Am happy though that you and Tom got to spend all these years together.
