Jeanne Watz (Maczik)

Jeanne Ann Maczik, age 70, of Freeland, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at University of Wisconsin- Madison Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on June 12, 1950, in Saginaw, MI, the daughter of Robert and Ilene (Graves) Watz.

Jean graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1968. She married Peter Maczik Jr. on March 7, 1975 in Saginaw Michigan. They resided in Freeland where they raised their children. Jeanne enjoyed cooking, baking and monthly dinners out with her favorite group of girlfriends. She worked at Aetna Insurance Company and then at the Dow Corning Elastomer technology lab until she was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Jean was a blessed recipient of two lung transplants. The first at University Hospital in San Antonio Texas in January 1990. The second at University of Wisconsin – Madison Hospital in August 2003. Two gracious families chose to donate lungs of their loved ones giving Jean and her family 30 extra years for which they are eternally grateful.

She is survived by her husband Peter and their three children Jessica (Justin) Maczik, Stephanie (Andrew) Bauman, Peter J. (Kati) Maczik, her sisters and brothers Bob (Cathy) Watz, Tom Kubiak, Carolyn Watz, Marilyn (Jim) Ferguson, James (Laura) Watz, David Watz, her grandchildren Ben, Natalie, Kaden, Branson, Brady, and Nolan, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Ilene Watz, father-in-law Peter Maczik Sr., sister Jan Kubiak, and sister-in-law Tinia Tarrant.

Her family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to her transplant team at University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital for 17 years of support and kindness. They would also like to encourage everyone to consider signing up for organ donation.

Jean’s wishes were to be cremated which has taken place at Gunderson Funeral Home in Madison, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may consider donations to Alpha-1 Foundation or UW Health Transplant Fund.
