Wayne A Balko, age 64 of Owosso passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at his home.

A mass of Christian burial will be held 11am Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 8pm with a rosary prayed at 6pm.

Wayne was born April 18, 1949 in Saginaw, the son of Arthur and Shirley (Bamberg) Balko.

He graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1967 and Central Michigan University earning Masters Degree in 1974.

Wayne married Nancy Dittenber in Saginaw on June 29, 1974.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a past member of the Shiawassee Rotary Club, Shiawassee County Heart Association, Michigan Association of Deaf Hearing and Speech Services Board, Past President of the Shiawassee United Way and Owosso Education Association along with serving on several Education Committees through the years.

Wayne retired in 2000 from Owosso Public Schools where he had taught English, speech, drama and drivers education. He had spent many years as a Coordinator, Guidance Counselor and Assistant Principal for the school district.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Jennifer Abrams and Julie (Brad) Breining; grandchildren Austin, Ashley, Matthew, Caleb and Allison; sisters Donna Scheuerlein and Carole (Tom) Steinbauer; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

Wayne is predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Larry Scheuerlein and in-laws Jake (Margaret) Dittenber.
