Leonard Bergersen Obituary

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI- Leonard Len Bergersen, 77, passed away on July 5, 2026. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1949, Len was the husband of Fern (Silva) Bergersen, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Harold Bergersen and Emily (Parsons) Bergersen and was predeceased by his sister, Emily Kay Lewis. He is survived by his sister, Joanne Fisher of North Carolina; his sons, Jack Bergersen and his wife, Courtney, and Eric Bergersen and his wife, Stephanie; and his granddaughters, Mackenzie and Maggie. 

Len graduated from Michigan State University before earning his J.D. from the Detroit College of Law. He served in the United States Navy, first as a Judge Advocate and later as a Surface Warfare Officer. He continued his service in the U.S. Navy Reserve, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain. 

Following his military service, he established a private law practice in Peacedale, Rhode Island, specializing in admiralty and real estate law. During his legal career, he also served as town solicitor for South Kingstown and as Counsel to the Minority in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. 

An avid skier and sailor, Len enjoyed sharing his love of skiing with others through the Boy Scouts, where he 

taught Scouts to ski and organized many trips to northern New England. An Eagle Scout himself, he later saw both of his sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed taking drives in his 1978 Fiat convertible, one of his favorite ways to spend a sunny day. Len was a familiar face at his favorite coffee shop - the bowling alley - where he met regularly with his friends in The Lunch Bunch. Together, they enjoyed meals, lively conversation, and solving the world's problems over coffee. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Cremation Society of Rhode Island. Services will be private at the family's request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
