Obituary for Alan "Rane" Bernard Sherman

Alan “Rane” Sherman, 70, of Saginaw Twp., our energetic father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on the evening of Sunday, February 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Alan was born in Bay City on October 21, 1949, the son of the late William Edward and Gloria Leah (Gillard) Sherman. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas grade school and graduated in 1967 from Douglas MacArthur High School. Alan continued his studies at Delta College, Grand Valley State, and the University of Texas. He went on to teach in both San Antonio, Texas and Paradise, Michigan and was also a professor at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. A kind and loving man, Alan also taught courses on happiness and laughing yoga. He enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, roller skating, and spending time in the sun with his family. Alan had many friends in Austin, Texas where he lived for over 30 years. Alan is survived by his two children, Eric Sherman and Jessica (Justin) Turner; granddaughter, Charlie Turner; siblings, Thomas Sherman, Stephen (Rhonda) Sherman, Mary Macauley, Daniel Sherman, Linda (William) Duncan, and his nieces and nephews, Brandon, Danielle, Emily, Gabriel, Aubrey, Carli, Patrick, Rachel, Sean, and Larissa. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Sherman. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Americans Home Health & Hospice, caregivers; Kay Moreau and Krysty Moten, for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lewy Body Dementia Association. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services (formerly Reitz-Herzberg), 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot.
