Sharon (Miller)

Obituary

Sharon passed away at Covenant Medical Center on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 78 years. She was born on April 5, 1942 to the late Wilford and Vernetta (Kiley) Kerridge in Saginaw. Sharon was a graduate of Saginaw High School, class of 1960. She continued her education at Central Michigan University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Education in June of 1964; she later obtained a Master’s Degree of Art in Secondary Teaching in August of 1973.

Sharon married Dennis Walter Miller on August 22, 1964 in Saginaw. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Her teaching career led her to Douglas MacArthur High School and Delta College. She also worked as the Placement Coordinator at Averill Career Opportunities Center. Sharon retired from Saginaw Public Schools after 36 years of service. She was a Charter Member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and a current Member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Sharon was most at peace spending time with her family at the cabin that she and Dennis purchased. They enjoyed watching and celebrating their grandchildren in their successful hunting. Sharon was often found in the kitchen baking her famous pies. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren the art of great cooking. In retirement, Sharon boasted of reading during her winters in Arizona and Florida, often reading over 100 books a season. She enjoyed traveling across the United States with her children in early years, and later exploring many countries across the globe with Dennis. Another favorite pastime includes casino trips with family and friends. Her unwavering support of her family helped to educate her children and grandchildren to ensure their successful future. She was one of the most humble, kind, generous, and giving mothers. As her children were growing up, she was always a favorite neighborhood mom. Always willing to teach, guide, advise, and listen to anyone in need. She was content and never hesitated to share her blessings with others.

Sharon is survived by her husband Dennis Miller, children: Jeffrey Miller, Lynette Johnson and Amy (Brad) Sporman and son-in-law Ted Johnson; grandchildren: Julia (Austin) Dewald, Lane Miller, Jenna Johnson, Bradley Johnson, Brandon Sporman, Ashleigh Sporman and great grandchild Dewald who is due in February. Also surviving her is her brothers-in-law Larry (Judy) Miller, and Steven Miller; nephew Brian (Elena) Miller and niece Jennifer (Ed) Logan.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Peace Lutheran Church (3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 8602) or the Twin Township Ambulance (7900 Saginaw Street, New Lothrop, Michigan 48460) in honor of Sharon’s grandson Bradley and all other first responders.
