James Le Mat

James E. LeMat, age 71 of Compton, IL passed away at his home on Saturday, January 11, 2020. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on January 5, 1949 the son of Lee and Dorothy (Hemingway) LeMat.

James was united in marriage on June 3, 1972 to Lynda Langworthy and they spent the next 47 years happily together. Pastor LeMat served the congregation of the First Baptist Church of La Moille, IL. James was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed.

James is survived by his wife, Lynda LeMat of Compton, IL; his children, Leslie Ellinger of Craigsville, Va. and David LeMat of Denver, Co.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lee LeMat; and his mother, Dorothy (Hemingway) Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Doug Akright writes...I remember Jim from Mrs. Vietek’s second grade class at Hemmeter Elementery School, right on through our high school days. He always seemed to have a friendly smile, and a ready laugh. We sat at the same table for the 25th class reunion. I believe he was the one who led the class in prayer for the reunion dinner. We enjoyed recalling some of the mischievous things we did as young kids, so I was surprised when he told me that he was a Baptist pastor down in Illinois. Bye for now Jim, I know I’ll see you again.
