LINDA STUPPY OBITUARY

Dr. Linda J. Stuppy, 74, of St. Joseph, previously of Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at the Willows Assisted Living, St. Joseph.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 Glenlord Road, St. Joseph. Visitation will take place one hour prior, from 9-10 a.m. also at the church. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in North Shore Memory Gardens.

Linda was born on May 30, 1948, to William and Helen (Podjan) Stuppy in Benton Harbor. She was part of the first grade school class at Grace Lutheran Church and graduated high school from Michigan Lutheran Seminary. Linda continued her education earning her associate of arts through Wisconsin Lutheran College, bachelor of science through Dr. Martin Luther College, master of arts through Michigan State University and doctor of philosophy through Andrews University.

Professionally, Linda served in many roles over the years throughout Michigan, including time at Riverwood Community Mental Health Center in St. Joseph, Head Start in Lansing, Bay-Arenac Community Mental Health Services in Bay City, Counseling Center in Alma, Delta Community College in University Center, Branch Mental Health Center in Coldwater, Kalamazoo County Human Service, Cass County Community Health Center, Kalamazoo Consultation Center and eventually opening her own private practice in 1985, Arcadia Creek Counseling in Kalamazoo.

Linda was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. She also held active memberships with several professional groups, including; Women's Therapist Network, Mothers' Mind Matters, Mental Health Association of Michigan, Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury Association and honorary appointment to the Michigan Board of Psychology from 1992-96 to name just a few.

Linda is survived by her twin brother, the Rev. Donald (Margaret) Stuppy; nieces and nephews: Michael (Kristin) Stuppy, Sarah (Ian) Lawson, David (Annie) Stuppy, John Stuppy and Rachel Stuppy; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Helen Stuppy, and brother, Richard Stuppy.

My sincere sympathy to Don and his family. 

I think I may have seen Linda once since our MLS graduation. From all that she accomplished in her life I guess I shouldn't wonder why. Obviously she wanted to study and learn as much as she could to be of help to people who needed understanding, compassion and the expertise that she had to offer.

I'm sorry that while I am here I will not have a chance to see her again - but I look forward to seeing her in eternity.
