Albert James "Jim" Medina, moved to Salina at the age of 11. His father was a career Army member and Jim had already lived in several locations in Euroupe, and then at various bases in the United States. Jim's father was preparing for the first of 4 deployments to Viet Nae when he moved his family to Schilling Air Force Base, Salina, Kansas. Jim graduated from Salina South High School in 1973.
While in school, Jim studied art and began playing guitar with friends. He jammed with fellow musicians in basements, garages and community centers until he formed his first band at the age of 15. Jim's cover band played the Beatles, Cream and Santana and many others at high school proms and events throughout the Midwest.
At 18 Jim joined the Navy and served six years on board the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67, the flagship of the 6th Fleet. As the lead guitarist for the ship's band, he played throughout Europe. These "Ambassadors of Good Will" members played for dignitaries, royalty and crowds young and old.
At the end of his military commitment, Jim moved back to Salina and began studying at Marymount College. After working in the communications and financial industries for several years, Jim moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. There he continued to write and play music, releasing his first CD. Jim also began to study spirituality more seriously. He traveled widely and enjoyed scuba diving, hiking and motorcycles.
His next move was to California's Central Coast, where he continued to hike, travel and compose and perform music. His spiritual path became a larger focus of his life. In 2012, Jim moved to the Central Valley of California where he composed and recorded his second CD. There he lived quietly, continuing his walks in the mountains and his spiritual studies.
Jim lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the legacy of his music.
