Jane Shuping (Corriher)

Jane Shuping (Corriher)

Katherine Jane Shuping Corriher of China Grove, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Glenn A.
Kiser Hospice House after a period of declining health. Jane was born on April 18, 1942 to the late Arthur
and Mary Young Shuping and was raised and loved by Margaret Ray Shuping. A 1960 graduate of Boyden
High School, she attended Rowan Memorial Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1963. She married
Harry Pressley Corriher, II on December 19, 1965. They were married for nearly 50 years until his death in
2015. She was a loyal wife, a wonderful mom and devoted grandma. Her nursing career included time in
pediatrics, public health, nursing home, home health, and the VA Medical Center, where she retired in 2004.
She was a caring person who lovingly attended to her patients. She instilled in her children and
grandchildren a love and appreciation for all people and animals, especially those up in years. Harry knew
that any pet that showed up at their place (and there were many!) would soon be part of the family! Jane
was an exceptional cook specializing in homemade yeast rolls, butter mints, homemade spaghetti sauce,
chocolate chip cookies and our kids' favorite, “tiny ball cookies”. While her children were young, she was
active in the PTA, the Boy Scouts, little league coaching, and church youth activities. She tried and
mastered all crafts, including chair caning, quilting, ceramic doll making, tole painting, candlewicking, leather
crafts, and basketry. Athletic and competitive, Jane played church basketball and softball forever and loved
to ride her bike. She enjoyed watching sports, whether it was a grandchild or on television. An avid Carolina
Tar Heel and Braves fan, she would have been thrilled with the recent World Series Win by the Braves!
What a huge hole Jane leaves in the lives of those who loved her! Jane is survived by her son, Chris
Corriher and wife, Spring, and daughters, Ellen Benfield of Shelby, her husband, Brian, and Emily Bancroft,
her husband, Bryan. Jane had seven grandchildren with whom she shared mutual adoration: Griffin, Keeley,
and Meredith Benfield, Ethan, Savanna, Luke, and Holden Bancroft, two step grandchildren: Brianne
Watson and Kacie Damme and four step great grandchildren: Ransom, Avery, Finley, and Hardison
Damme. Jane's surviving siblings are: Mary Picking, Bob Shuping (Jean), Romas Shuping (Sarah), Leda
Belk, Dick Shuping (Jean), and Tom Shuping (Pat), Susan Linn (Bill). Jane is also survived by brother-in-law
John Corriher, sister-in-law Jan Corriher Kelly and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her
parents, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, A.J Shuping, Jack Shuping, and Bill Shuping. Her
family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers who assisted the family in keeping Jane at her home for
years: Nancy, Ann Marie, Ashley, Krystle, Cordi, Eve, Elizabeth, and Tonya. Service: Visitation will be held
in the Mt. Zion Activity Room on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 3:00 to 4:00pm. Funeral Services will be
held at 4:00pm in the Mt. Zion Church Sanctuary (for those unable to attend, the service will be live
streamed via Mt. Zion's Facebook page). Committal Service will immediately follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
