Paul Pollei

Paul Cannon Pollei passed away on July 18, 2013.
 

Paul was born May 9, 1936. He grew up in the family home in Salt Lake City and attended Bryant Jr. High, East High School and the University of Utah. He attended Eastman School of Music and received his Ph.D. at Florida State University. He was a member of the piano faculty at Brigham Young University, where he taught for over 40 years.


In 1976 Paul founded the Gina Bachauer International Piano competition, which has grown to become the second largest piano competition in the United States. He was a founding member of the American Piano Quartet and a jury member for many national and international piano competitions throughout the world.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Eric.
He is survived by his children Emilie and Mark, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandsons Edward and Henry, and his brothers Robert and David Pollei.
