Karen Dee Schmitt Johnson 1962 ~ 2010 Our beautiful beloved wife, daughter and sister died October 19, 2010 in a tragic truck-bicycle collision while cycling with her co-worker, and friend, Bob Henderson by her side. Karen was born April 14, 1962 in Salt Lake City to Charles E. and Grace A. Schmitt. She was baptized November 18, 1962 and was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church. She served as a candy striper and was a member of Granite Youth Symphony, traveling as a violinist in the International Good Will Concert while in junior high school. Karen was an honor graduate of Granite High School; Karen graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. She was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega and was an avid Ute fan. She married Jim Daderko Sept 5, 1986, later divorced. On October 20, 2001, she married Bryce Johnson. For the past 15 years she was employed as a software engineer at Cirris Systems. Her great interest in cycling was stoked by her friends at Cirris, She was active in the community and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was the current President of the Consociates Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Salt Lake, an organization that was very close to her heart, where she made many close friends. Karen and Bryce were supporters of the Utah Symphony, Hogle Zoo and Red Butte Gardens. An avid cyclist and skier, Karen loved flowers, gardening and animals. She enjoyed travel, the symphony and decorating. Karen also loved the outdoors and chocolate chip cookies. Karen is survived by her husband, Bryce Johnson of Salt Lake City, parents Chuck and Grace Schmitt, Salt Lake City, and sister Sandra (Kurt) Kragthorpe, Salt Lake City. Memorial services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2 p.m. Zion Evangelical Church, 1070 South Foothill Boulevard, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contribution be made to the Consociates Auxiliary Assistance League of Salt Lake, P.O. Box 9353, Salt Lake City, UT 84109.
