Tony Sorensen

Anthony John Sorensen “Tony” Much loved husband, father, son and brother passed on to his Father in Heaven on August 20, 2009 in Tonapah, Nevada; wearing a huge grin driving along side his co-driver, son TJ in the Riot Race Truck “68” while his wife, daughter, son-in-law, brother and several other of his family and friends were behind the scenes managing the details.  Allowing him to do what the dream of his life was, the ultimate in off road racing.  Riot Racing came to be as a result of Tony’s passion and dedication to off-road racing.  It was his vision and passion that helped guide Riot Racing from its inception to what it is now.

We can console ourselves knowing that Tony passed doing something he loved and dreamed about his whole life- racing a trophy truck in the desert.  Perhaps his greatest passion in life was the family business, SALCORP, that he and his father and brother ran for the past 32 years.  Tony’s work can be seen all over that business.  He enjoyed producing the very best, but he enjoyed more the fact that it was indeed a family business where his association with nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends would have another opportunity to be together.

Tony was born October 22, 1962 to Derral and Annie Sorensen.  He was the third in line of four siblings.  He graduated from Highland High School in 1981 and was Sterling Scholar in Art, having a passion for art and photography.  He was able at an early age to fix anything, take it apart and put it back together.  He could build anything from the plans in his head.  The worst thing you could do was to tell him it was impossible and he would make a believer out of you.

His most prized possessions and what made him the happiest was his family.  His gracious and loving wife (Wendy) and his two children, Anthony John “TJ” and kristen (Jerry) and their soon to be precious arrival, along with his four step-children (Brock, Desiree Kamiah and Brianna).  He was known as “Grandpa Tony” to Brooklynn, JD, Ryker, Kiya and Kallie; and his big black bear of a dog “Newfy;” all who have a great love for him.

Those who are left behind and celebrate his life are his parents, Derral and Annie; a brother Scott C. (Celeste); brother Derral G. Jr. and a sister Joanna M.  Nieces and nephews Autumn (Chris), Aubrie (Matt), Jessica (Corey), Lacie (Terry), Scottie (Brad), Drew, Kelsey, Zach who loved Uncle Tony along with many Aunts and Uncles.
