Susan Dale Richards McShane (May 13, 1955 – February 22, 2013) 29 years and an undetermined number of months old peacefully passed away surrounded by her husband and children.
She is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Hillaury (Carlos) Saravia, son Patrick (Stacy), four perfect grandchildren and Miss Abbey. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia E. Richards, sister Kathleen (Lee) Ritzman, brothers Steven (Kip), Matthew (Kirsten), Jon (Karla), Robert (Becky).
Proceeded in death by her father Dr. Lorin L. Richards Jr. and her Parents in law Orrice and Larene McShane.
She was born and raised in a Salt Lake City where she internalized what she was taught in her youth and came to understand that she was a child of God. This knowledge directed how she lived the rest of her life while reaching out to others with compassion, caring, and love. Her wonderful children were the beneficiary of this.
Susan was a nurse by profession and a loving wife and an enthusiastic, caring mother and grandmother by avocation. She was proud to be a nurse and loved the unique opportunity nursing brought to serve others. She began her college education at BYU and it is still rumored to this day that the chemistry lab she was assigned to has never really recovered from her earliest attempts at science.
Susan was a talented musician; she played the violin beautifully and directed many unforgettable choir programs. She was without a doubt the most completely enthusiastic leader that any congregation has ever had.
Her beautiful smile was her hallmark; others were drawn to her by it and they loved the person they got know as the "lady with the smile". She had the gift to befriend anyone and drew near to those who were shy or in need of support. No child escaped here attention, kind comment, hug or love.
She was delighted when she had the privilege to be called to serve as an Ordinance Worker in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. She embraced the opportunity with her usual zeal, enthusiasm and ever present smile. All arrayed in spotless white, with her smile and loving attitude she was the perfect picture of the angel that she was. As her health problems became more severe and conspired to keep her away from the temple, she would still fight to go and serve. At the end shift should need to be carried up the steps to her home as her exhaustion was so great.
The blessing of beautiful grandchildren filled her heart with hope and she was deeply driven to spoil them above measure. The greatest sadness of her passing is that they will miss all of the "Molli-woppit" days, treats and presents possible. They will not be without her influence on them, but no one could organize and put together a better "Molli-woppit" day than Susan.
Although her health was a great trial, her buoyancy and determination was unparalleled. In the depth of all of this her husband, in the worst Jimmy Stewart imitation ever, would say, "Ah gee Sue, what do want, can I lasso the moon?" and she would say, "Yes, you are right, it is a wonderful life."
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the IMC Medical Center and especially to Becky and Angela for their love and support as we stood our final watch.
The funeral service will be Thursday February 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM, with a viewing at 9:30 AM prior to the Service. There will also be a viewing on Wednesday, February 27 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
