Scott Dunford

Scott Dunford

Scott Cordell Dunford, 53, a resident of Sandy, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, due to complications from a 45-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis.

Scott was born January 29, 1948, to Burns Love and Maurine Phippen Dunford. He graduated from East High in 1966 and received a business and accounting degree from Steven Henegar College. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served a mission, 1967-69, in northern California. He married Pamela Hay, December 10, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple. He held numerous positions in the church; his favorite was teaching teenagers. Scott's three children loved him for his unselfish support and power to make others happy. As a father, he was our hero. Scott was an exceptionally courageous man who inspired everyone. He had many friends who loved him and admired his ability to live life to the fullest. Master of radio-controlled helicopters and avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist, he shared his passion for life with his wife and everyone around him. "Scotty at the vibes" lit up the room with his talent, playing the vibraphone. We will miss his happy face, witty personality and bold ability to conquer physical pain. Scott loved his work at Camco Construction and the people with whom he associated.

Sincere gratitude is extended to the medical staff at St. Mark's Hospital for their fine care and expertise, particularly Dr. Shockey, Dr. Lara and the nursing staff.

Scott is survived by his wife, Pam; daughter, Natalie (Marty) Thomas - Midvale; sons: Ryan (Kristie) Dunford - Syracuse and Collin Dunford; Sandy, father, Burns L. Dunford - Salt Lake; in-laws: Douglas and Theola Hay - Idaho; three brothers: Wyn (Annette) Dunford - Seattle, WA, Jed (Traci) Dunford - So. Jordan, Brad (Wendy) Dunford - Salt Lake and sister, Sandy (Richard) Meyer - Sandy; grandchildren: Kayden Dunford, Martina Thomas and Roxanne Kapinos; brother-in-law, Steven (Connie) Hay - Idaho and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and a nephew.

I got to know Scott after high school.  We had met a few times before (he is a distant cousin) but I got to know him in college.  We became fast friends.  I enjoyed his wit and his tenacity.  There was nothing he would not try, from water skiing to horse back riding (especially difficult with his condition).  I really miss him.

I remember Scott from Stewart and East. He was always a very kind and gentle person. I will miss him.

My brother and I got together with Scott an numerous occasions to race radio controlled cars with a club at an empty warehouse in Murray as I recall.  He was always a fun happy-go-lucky sort of guy and a good friend.  One of my favorites from East.
