Howard Landa

Howard Landa

February 7, 1948 ~ January 12, 2013

"I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."
-Casper Gutman, the Maltese Falcon

Howard S. Landa, beloved husband and father, died January 12th, 2013 from complications of diabetes. He was born to Jerome and Esther Landa in Tulsa, OK on February 7th, 1948 and moved to Salt Lake City as a young child. A man of many degrees, he graduated from East High School followed by the University of Utah where he earned a B.A. in history. He attended Hastings Law school in San Francisco and earned his LLM from New York University. He was a founding partner of the law firm Kruse, Landa, Maycock and Ricks and was feared by many. After several successful years practicing tax and securities law he left to become Howard S. Landa CEO.

His crowning achievement, however, was marrying his lovely wife Theresa (Terry) and being the proud father of his three children, all of whom inherited his trademark wit. Howard will always be remembered as a loyal and generous friend and the best storyteller at any party. He is fondly remembered for his love of classic film, indomitable Jeopardy skills, Tommy Bahama shirts, and appreciation of wine and bourbon- especially Turley and Hirsch.

He is survived by his wife Theresa (Terry), his children, David, Whitney (Thomas Maiaroto) and Christopher, his mother Esther and his sister Terry Landa Vismantas (Ray). Preceded in death by his sister, Carol Landa.

Howard,Terry,Jim and I shared a friendship at the Cottonwood Club until we moved to California in 1989.We would sit in the lounge....talking....then realize that we had to rush home to see our favorite shows....HILL STREET BLUES and MIAMI VICE...why leave the Club ..why not just watch the tv's at the Club....there were none then in public places...why not just record the program to watch later.....Recoding on VHS then was not predictable..one couple at the Club hired a young girl to come to their house ,push the record button, watch the taping, and push stop at the end .They covered the constantly blinking lights with a pillow...things have changed. Howard was at the 40th...hosted a party at their home for everyone at the 30th ....Howard is missed.

One of the many things I loved about Howard was his golf stance.  Classic!
