Carol Stokes **

Carol Stokes **

Former Salt Lake resident Carol Louise (Stokes) Kimball of Eugene, Oregon, died April 6, 1999 of complications due to diabetes.

She was born April 26, 1948, the daughter of Richard N. and Margaret Woolsey Stokes, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both parents preceded her in death.Carol moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1983. It was the fulfillment of a long time wish to live in the Northwest. Having spent a great deal of time in the Great Basin area, Carol became an avid lover of Oregon. She delighted in the rich green countryside and beautiful Pacific Ocean.

During her career in Eugene, she worked for the Eugene Opera and Ballet, Holt International Children's Services, Lane Community College (LCC) Theatre Department, and Oregon Social Learning Center. Her education included three years at Southern Utah State College and graduation cum laude from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts with a theater major.

She was a prominent character actress in the 1970's in Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of her favorite roles included the maid in "No No Nanette", Amanda in "The Glass Menagerie" and ParthyAnn in "Showboat." After settling in Oregon, while working at LCC, she appeared in the murder mystery "Deathtrap" as Helga Tendorp the Swedish psychic.

She married David Rolland Kimball in 1988, who preceded her in death.

She was blessed with the love of an extended family and many friends from every walk of life. Carol always tried to remind people to bring humor into even the most difficult times in their lives. She always believed that in one way or another, we shall all be united after death. She also felt that there is no way to repay a kindness in the world-one can only pass it on to someone else.

She is survived by four stepchildren: Patrick Kimball of Seattle; Jill Marie Kimball of Seattle; Dawn Ellen Kimball of Eugene; Miranda Kimball Burt of Eugene; and by eight step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her aunts: Lilian Fox of Eugene and Claudia S. Thurman of Salt Lake City, Utah; as well as by her cousins: Anndria Gross of Eugene, Oregon; David J. Thurman, of Atlanta, Georgia; A. Robert Thurman of Salt Lake City, Utah; John Paul Fox, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Susan T. Mitchell, of San Jose, California.
