David Marks **

David Marks **

David Maurice Marks, age 53, peacefully passed on to the other side February 20, 2001 at Saint Marks Hospital of respiratory failure with his family present.

He was born September 29, 1947 in San Diego, California, the beloved son of Ruth Cantor and Jerome Marks. David began his spiritual journey in the Jewish faith as a member of Congregation Montefiore here in Salt Lake City. He married Clover Lovejoy April 5, 1968. They have four children and have had a multitude of pets throughout the years. After converting to the LDS faith, David and Clover were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 5, 1978.

David worked for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office for nearly 29 years. Starting as a dispatcher, David advanced to the position of director of communications. His expertise and extensive knowledge of the dispatch office was respected by all who worked with him. Despite David's deteriorating health, he was very determined to continue working and remained a dedicated and loyal employee until the time of his death. David's sense of humor and playful nature will be missed by all who knew him.

David's greatest joy was his family with a very special love for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Cantor; his wife, Clover; his children, Jerry, David Jeffrey, Mindy and Kasie; his grandchildren, Xiomara, Tristin, Beau Schacht and John Nathan Yakovich; his brother, Loren and his sister, Rebecca Ledbetter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome and his brother, Nathan.

(added by Ron Christensen):

David was a student at East during his sophomore and junior years but switched to South High as a senior. He worked as manager of Airways Rent-a-car in Salt Lake City during the late 1960s then as dispatcher for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office for the remainder of his career. He was an extremely bright individual with a wonderful sense of humor, a gifted athlete who had amazing abilities as a sprinter, a dedicated father and husband.
