We are sad to announce the passing of Kevin Luther Aldred due to an aggressive cancer on November 8, 2018 at 7:50 p.m. at the age of 65. We are grateful that he didn’t have to suffer very long.

Kevin was born in Salt Lake City on May 23, 1953 to John Frederick Aldred, Jr. and Ivy Purdy Aldred. His father died May 5, 1986, leaving Kevin to take care of his mother until she died on October 2, 1997. Kevin went on his mission when British Columbia, the Yukon Territory, and Alaska were all one mission. He talked about the mission president only being at the mission home one week out of each month because he was traveling all over the mission. Near the end of his mission, the Alaska mission was formed, and he stayed in Vancouver until he came home.

Kevin married VeOnna Christensen on March 26, 1999 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was late due to witnessing an accident that morning. We were able to sit under the old olive tree south of the Salt Lake Temple that was destroyed by the tornado.

Kevin loved learning and teaching. He wanted to become a history teacher; but unable to get his certification, he became the best substitute teacher in the valley. He taught in Granite, Jordan, Canyon, Murray, and Salt Lake school districts. Many days he would come home from school with pictures drawn by students stating that he was the best. He was passionate about Church history, U.S. history, and world history. He has an extensive library of history books.

His parents’ emigrated from England a few years before he was born. He was the only cousin to have both U.S. and English citizenship. He always wanted to take VeOnna to see the family in England, but he was unable to.

He loved watching travel shows and would tell anyone watching with him the details about the places he had visited with his cousins in England and Europe.

He had many health problems in his life due to some of his Mom’s health problems. She had 4 infants die at birth before he was born.

Kevin is survived by his wife, VeOnna. They didn’t have children, but made a difference in the lives of his students and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, John Peter, who died on May 24, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was loved my many who will miss him. He loved volunteering at Primary Children’s Hospital and will be missed by their staff.
