A. Hamer Reiser, III, M.D. 1948 ~ 2008 A. Hamer Reiser, III, M.D., our beloved father, a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and compassionate physician, died peacefully in his sleep at home on June 1, 2008.He was born in Salt Lake City on March 28, 1948. He was the oldest of the "Three Good Boys" of A. Hamer Reiser, Jr., and Betty Jo Carter Reiser. He attended schools in Salt Lake City and was student body president at Northwest Junior High School. He attended Highland High School and participated in a variety of sporting and academic activities. Hamer served a successful LDS mission in England where his namesake grandfather had presided two generations previously. He married Margaret Nelson, later divorced. They were parents of six children: Natalie (Dan) Bacon, Concord, MA; Sarah, Boston, MA; Hamer IV, Jacob, and Joseph of Salt Lake City. Christine, their first-born daughter preceded him in death. His children were the joy of his life and the center of his universe. He had a unique and cherished relationship with each of them. Hamer graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1976, where he excelled in the Honors program. Later he received an award for "Outstanding Clinical Teaching" presented by the residents of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was Board Certified in OBGYN in 1982. He established a successful clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Salt Lake City. He loved his patients and was beloved by them. He was an intuitive, insightful, attentive physician assisting in the miracle of birth for thousands of families. He was gracious and generous with his time and knowledge, serving refugees and those in need. He was incredibly bright and enjoyed playing the piano, reading good books, playing and watching baseball, even attending New York Yankee Fantasy Baseball Camp. He enjoyed foreign travel, especially to his beloved Brazil. He had a passion for languages and was fluent in many. He had a brilliant sense of humor, was a true and genuine friend and was unconditionally accepting and loving of everyone. Hamer is survived by two brothers; Laurence (Jane) Reiser, Fruit Heights, UT and Hal (Janet) Reiser, Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his long time friend, Annette Schaal, and their beloved Earl, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members each of whom adored Hamer. He was especially solicitous and attentive to his octogenarian parents who also survive him. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the East Mill Creek Stake Center, 3103 East 3600 South (Craig Drive.) Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6 at the same location and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. I immediately started doing things with Hamer when he moved into our neighborhood.  He had so many interests that it was hard to keep up with him.  He was so kind and generous and interested in what other people were up to.  He has been sorely missed.
