John Simmons

John died November 20, 1987 from complications related to hemophilia. This obituary was published in the Salt Lake Tribune, November 22, 1987.

John Loren Simmons, age 36, our most wonderful husband, Dad, son, brother and uncle, passed away Friday, November 20, 1987, after a long illness.  John was born March 15, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Raymond Egan and Maurine Robinson Simmons.  Married Allyn (Lynn) Flandro, August 23, 1972, Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Graduated from Highland High School where he was on the yearbook staff.  He received his bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Utah.  Served on the National Hemophilia Foundation Board as Representative of the western states, and was president of the Utah chapter.  Active in the LDS Church serving in several callings including that of Bishopric counselor in the Grandview II Ward.  John lived a great life and was devoted to his precious family.  His life served as an example to us all.

He is survived by his courageous wife, Lynn; his five sons, John Jr., 13; Daniel, 10, Andrew, 7; Michael, 4; and Jeffrey, 20 months; parents; brother and sister, Mrs. Stephen  (Deanne) Evans; Paul Simmons; and Mrs. Walton (Bonnie) Booker; all of Salt Lake City; and many loving uncles and aunts.

Funeral services Monday, November 23rd, 12 noon, Butler 22nd Ward, 6890 So. 2225 East Street.  Friends may call Sunday, 6-8 pm, at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and at the Ward, Monday, one hour prior to services.  Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.  Contributions may be made to: Hemophilia Foundation, 643 East 400 South Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102.

John and I grew up in the same neighborhood. Because of his hemopilia, when he was young he often had to wear braces and use cruthces. Fortunately, medical technology helped John live a much richer life. Here is a very interesting article from the July 3, 1977 Salt Lake Tribune featuring John.
