Obituary of Dana Scott Halliday
Dana Scott Halliday, 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife and soul mate, Jana, his two loving children, Tristan and Casey, his sweet daughter-in-law Alexia, and his loving and caring sister, Debbie.
Dana was born on October 26, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fourth of six children, to nurturing parents Thomas Woodbury and Florence Pia Halliday.
Dana met his wife and best friend of 42 years at Mountain Dell Golf Course, where they later married on August 27, 1983. They were a match made in Heaven at 17 years old and have been inseparable best friends and partners in life ever since. Their love for one another grew deeper when they were blessed with two children, Tristan and Casey. His children and wife were his whole world and he made it known. Dana became a grandfather to Tristan’s two boys, Jaxon and Crew, and when Casey married his best friend Alexia, his world became even more complete.
He was the rock of the family and cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Dana made everybody feel like a somebody. He could be relied on in every way, from making his wife and children feel safe and comfortable, to fixing anything and everything and being there for life’s most important moments. He made everyone laugh with his witty one-liners, dad jokes and playfulness. He was a natural born teacher and doer. His warmth radiated and could be felt by everyone.
He shared his passions for golfing, skiing, hiking, biking and camping with his family and friends. He was an avid Utah Utes fan, loved finding new recipes to cook, and enjoyed the simple things in life. One of his greatest achievements was building a family cabin from the ground up in Timberlakes, where many memories were made. He was incredibly proud of his son Casey for playing golf for the University of Utah and loved to be there to support him for every tournament he could. He was an engineer by trade and took pride in his work at Deer Valley on the World Cup race crew, which he did for 18 years. He and Jana built their dream home in Midway to continue living the lifestyle they loved.
Dana, known by his grandchildren as “grandpa” left this world too early. The bond he and his grandsons have is unbreakable. Dana’s eyes lit up when he was around his grandchildren and they adored him just the same. Sweet grandpa spent his time storytelling in the bunk bed he built, having “tiger fight” wrestling matches and teaching his grandsons how to ski, ride bikes, golf, and “fix stuff." He was at every sporting event cheering the loudest. Above all, grandpa showed by his caring example how important it is to be kind, honest and cherish every moment we have together.
Dana will be deeply missed. There will be a hole in our family forever, yet we find peace and comfort knowing that his legacy and his loving teachings of always being “Humble and Kind” will be carried on. We can find happiness in his passing by knowing Dana is enjoying the sunset on Newport Beach, sitting in an “Old Blue Chair” with a Corona and a shot of tequila in hand, a smile on his face, finally pain-free and watching over us always.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dana’s honor on Saturday, June 26th from 5:00-9:00PM at Lower Washington Park located in Mountain Dell Golf Course at the same special location he married the love of his life and soul mate.

My husband and I became very good couple friends with Dana and jana. We have 20 + years of really great memories that we hold dear. Dana's cancer and passing has been heartbreaking for family and friends. We are missing him so much. His obituary truly states what a loving kind intelligent and passionate person he was. We will miss the bike rides the golf the skiing the walks along the beaches in the forest and just hanging around talking over a good meal or out on the deck breathing in the mountain air.

This breaks my heart. Dana and I grew up in the same neighborhood and attended the same schools, from elementary on. He lived a productive and meaningful life. Rest in heavenly peace, my friend. -Sally

I met Dana when my family moved into the neighborhood when I was in sixth grade. The thing I remember most about him was his athleticism and speed. If I remember correctly no one could catch him. I’m sorry he was taken so early. I would have loved to get reacquainted. I wish the best for his family especially in this difficult time.

Reading Dana's beautiful obituary, and those of the too many others in our class, I have found myself asking myself over and over again, how could I have not known these lovely people better when I had the chance?
