Stanley Clive Romney obituary, 1951-2023, West Jordan, UT

Stanley Clive Romney was born in Salt Lake City, Utah February 6, 1951, the 4th of 9 children. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1969 and from Utah Technical College in 1971. He is survived by his 3 children, Allison (and Derek), Brennon (and Jessica), Gavin, and 10 grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Isaiah, Rebekah, Samuel, Skyler, Konnor, Lia, Miles, and Hannah; as well as his siblings, Fred (and Patricia), Eldon (and Lynda), Clive (and Bonnie), Roslyn (and Jay), RaeLynne (and Brian), and Vince (and Chriss), and brother-in-law, Theo, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Stan was born with Hemophilia A which prevented him from being able to serve in the military, so instead he and his brother, Clive, formed a band called the Augmented Fifth and entertained the troops in Vietnam and Thailand. After that adventure, Stan loved playing bass guitar and traveled all over with Clive as a back-up band for Sunshade ‘n Rain.

In 1989 Stan took a position with Baker Hughes in Houston, Texas. He was the best DJ for the stake dances, and also did DJ work at local fundraisers and other events.

His passion seemed to be photography and he became a professional-level amateur photographer taking pictures of people, scenery, flowers, and wildlife. He had a special talent for finding the beauty in everything around him. He also loved ballroom dancing (often taking 1st place in the Halloween costume contests with his good friend, Debbie); so far 2 of his grandsons are learning to love it as well! Side-note – he always made Halloween epic at our house with his sound system and scaring the teenagers out of their socks!

Stan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s years ago and his health began to decline. During the last 2.5 years of his life, he moved in with his daughter and her family as he was unable to live safely on his own. He struggled with mobility and even talking on the phone with people. Significant back-pain also caused issues for him. In November, he began a fast decline in functionality and succumbed to the effects of Parkinson’s December 17th, 2023 surrounded by his family and hospice nurse.

He loved his friends, loved his family, and loved the beauty he found all around him. He will be deeply missed but we are grateful he is reunited with his parents, his sister Ruthie, brother Mark and nephew Miles. We are certain he is dancing away with them now!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23, at 11 AM at the LDS chapel at 663 W 400 N Saratoga Springs, Utah.  The interment will be at the Redwood Memorial Estates cemetery at 6500 S., Redwood Road. Streaming services for the funeral will be available on the Redwood Memorial Estates website.

Stan was so talented!  We reconnected several years ago on the reunion committee.  The committee was able to make informed decisions relative to the sound system and photography for the reunion all due to his expertise.  He had to move very carefully because of health concerns.  I asked him if he were always in pain.  He stopped to think as though it he hadn't thought about it before.  He finally said very simply, "Yes."  Stan, you endured so much.  Rest in peace my friend.

I first met Stan in the 3rd grade at East Millcreek Elementary School.  At Skyline, we shared a mutual interest in Photography, and sat across from each other in one of Mr. Brooksby's Electronics classes.  He was a Good Guy...!  Pat Tucker

I met Stan in 1967 at Skyline. He had part time job at a music store fixing electronics, but was more interested in photography. He introduced me to the owner of Music Arts and I enjoyed working there for about 4 years. Along the way Jeff Hilton, Pat Tucker and Garry Fratto and Rich Sheya joined the company. Besides the music store, the owner founded Mountain Sound which provided huge sound systems for concerts of that era. Pat and I traveled with many bands, setup and mixed sound for Black Oak Arkansas, The Steve Miller band, REO Speedwagon, Alice Cooper, Peter Yarrow, Roy Clark and many local bands like Holden Caufield. My college commitments eventually required my moving on, but Great times for all were had. Tom and Bruce Fowler were playing in Frank Zappa's band at that time, The Mothers of Invention.

I knew him through the music he and his brother performed and it was great. From everything I knew, he was a genuinely good guy and had a positive outlook on life. Very talented and creative. I'm glad his suffering has ended. RIP, Stan!
