Alanna Hauck

Alanna Jean Hauck Todd

Alanna Jean Hauck Todd, died peacefully on Friday, March 3, 1995 after a 25 year battle with her health. Her free spirit was with her to the end.

Alanna was born in Salt Lake City on February 7, 1954 to Donna Tanner and Clarence Hauck. Her early years were difficult but she remained joyous and playful through most of her youth. Her school days, especially Jr. and Senior High were filled with art, plays, music and laughter. Alanna was married in the Manti Temple on May 17, 1974 to Charles Fredrick Todd. They were later divorced. She always stood up for the ailing, afflicted and poor in spirit to her last days. She also stood up for herself, and some family members describe her as `stubborn as a mule.' She loved animals and was manager of the Humane Society and later served as a Veterinarian Technician until her health totally failed in 1987. Her creative talents included her beautiful garden, paintings, costumes, drama, dancing, decorating and cooking. Her loves included her family and friends, especially her son, animals, the earth, history and reading. Family and friends saw her as an enigma presenting a puzzling picture with her love of expensive and elegant things and yet adoring the simplicity of a sea shell and the smell and touch of all the world of nature, often making her own art, furniture, clothing and jewelry from the most primitive state. In a sense, maybe she was consistent after all, in her love of all things beautiful. Her gifts were her sense of humor, her laughter and her search of justice for others. Her strongest feature was her determination. In her worst days of the past 10 years, even isolated and lost from the love of others she still reached out for justice, compassion and understanding for others. As a true `free thinker' she was capable of making good and bad choices in life and accepted whatever was sent her way with few complaints. She spent much of her life searching, not always to her best advantage, but still searching.Besides her parents, Alanna is survived by her beloved son Duston, adored sisters, Connie (Dick) Saddler, Lynnette (Jerry) Jellison, faithful brothers Michael and Clarey Huack. Her much loved nieces and nephews Daran and Michelle Casper, Travis, Vanessa, Heather and Jordan Holtkamp, and David Hauck whom she raised for seven years. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert and her cat Plush. She also thought of her doctor, Clifford Harman as a father figure. Erik and all of Dr. Harman's staff are thanked, as well as all of the nurses and doctors at Holy Cross (now Salt Lake Regional Medical Center) for all of their loving care through all the years. Thanks to her friend Robert Rider also.

Although Alanna loved flowers, she asked that those wanting to memorialize her to donate to the Humane Society or, better yet, adopt a pet.

Family and friends will be received at Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood from six to eight Monday evening. Funeral Tuesday, 2 p.m. at the same place where family and friends will be greeted one hour prior to services.

I didn't know Alanna personally but I remember her lovely face.  Her love of animals and request that a donation or adoption from the Humane Society is preferred over flowers is admirable.
