Clarence Shane Merrill 

  

Clarence Shane Merrill 1953 ~ 2004  Clarence Shane Merrill, age 50, entered into rest on June 27, 2004 from complications of diabetes in West Valley City, Utah. Shane was born December 31, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence LeGrande Merrill and Marian Thompson Merrill. He graduated from BYU with a BA Degree in Political Science. Shane married Marla Meteer on July 12, 1978 in Oakland, California at the Oakland LDS Temple. Shane was an active member of the LDS Church and had a strong testimony of the gospel. He served a full time mission in the Georgia/South Carolina Mission, and served in several bishoprics and was on the High Council. Shane served in the Boy Scouts of America as a District Commissioner and received the Silver Beaver, the George Meany Award, and the District Award of Merit. He helped campaign for several political candidates and was very involved in civic activities. He enjoyed teaching history and geography in Craig, Colorado and at Eisenhower Junior High. Shane loved the cabin, camping, fishing, family vacations, card games and his dog, Chester. His focus in life was on his family. He enjoyed his wife, his kids and his grandbaby.  Shane is survived by his loving wife, Marla; son, Kimball (Amber) Merrill; daughter, Leslie Merrill; sister, Lynette (Todd) Fenton; brother, Don (Jeanette) Merrill; brother-in-law, Kenny Rasmussen; granddaughter, Emma Rose; father and mother-in-law, Russell and Verba Meteer. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Rasmussen. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the SL Hunter Copperhill Stake Center, 6710 West 4145 South. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 2nd from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. prior to the service on July 3rd at the Stake Center. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Drive.  All who knew Shane, loved his sense of humor. He always had a positive attitude despite his many hardships. He was a wonderful example and a friend to everyone he met. He will be dearly missed.
