Jim Steorts

James R. Steorts passed away in his sleep on June 26, 2012, at 5:40 a.m., after a 6-½-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jim is survived by his brother, Brad Steorts of Billings; sister Jeanette Falkenrath (Jack) of Salt Lake City, Utah; his son, Matt Steorts (Taunya), and grandsons Benjamin and Tanner of Worden; and daughter, Lisa Juels (Rick), and grandson Ian of Sacramento, Calif.

Jim enjoyed life between years in the Steel Tip Darts Association and the Billings Flying Mustangs. He was known as the “Warbird Guy.” Jim also was a lifetime member of “UPA,” where he believed every day was a holiday. Jim was an amazing person, showing great strength, and did not let the cancer stop him from enjoying things he loved doing. James will be missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Steorts and Betty Jo Coleman, and his sister JoAnne Parks.

Per Jim’s request there will be a Farewell Bonfire on Saturday, June 30, starting at 4 p.m., at 4852 McGirl Road in Billings.

To Kathy Hale, our graduating class sends out our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

I received a note from Kathy on July 22, 2012.  It reads:

Dear Dave, It is with great sadness that I tell you that Jim passed away on June 26, 2012 from a 6 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He fought a long and valiant battle and showed amazing courage. I loved him deeply. He and I share most of our lives together in one way or another but mostly through our amazing children and grandchildren. Jim always heard his own drums and only danced to his own tune. He was a true adventurer. On June 29, 2012 12 held a BBQ in his honor and remembrance in Billings, MT. Nearly 300 people attended. It was an amazing testament to his life. As you can imagine, his children and I are grieving. It was my plan that Jim and I attend our class reunion together. I had so hoped he would make it till September but God had other plans.

Sincerely, Kathy
