THOMAS FARRELL BRYANT

Thomas Farrell Bryant, age 70, of San Angelo, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at his residence. He was born June 17, 1933, in San Angelo, the only son of Evelyn Anne Woodward Bryant and Marvin Thomas Bryant. He grew up on the Beck farm during his childhood. He graduated from the old Lake View School in 1950, attended San Angelo College, Sul Ross and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's of science degree in history from Texas Tech. He later graduated with a master's of science in teaching in 1956. Farrell served in the Army Selective Service from 1956-57. He was lucky to have been chosen one of the 15 teachers in the United States to go to Brazil on the Fulbright Scholarship. Farrell began teaching government, world history and economics at Central in 1957, and continued until his retirement in 1991. He married GRETCHEN KAREN (JOHAN) BRYANT in 1965. From this union, three children were born and raised with much love. In 1978, he began his work at Bentwood Country Club until December of 2001. He substitute taught for Christoval Independent School District when he was needed. He served on the committee for the Historic San Angelo Inc. and the San Angelo Old Town Conservancy and enjoyed visiting with his many friends, with whom he had strong relationships. He worked to restore old houses, enjoying the cultural ties between Mexico and the United States. He also enjoyed attending the Angelo Civic Theater, reading, interior design and decorating, and caring for his many flowers and exotic plants. He also taught Russian history, world civilization and US Federal Government as an extension program at Goodfellow Air Force Base. Farrell touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. He was a kind, loving and generous father who loved his friends and family immensely. He created beauty throughout his home and surroundings. His passions were gardening, yard work, decorating and being with friends and family. He saw beauty in everything and everyone. He was a great father and extraordinary man who will be missed terribly. He is survived by his three children, Courtney Bryant of San Angelo, Christen Miller and her husband, Scott, of Dallas and MATTHEW BRYANT of Dallas; a grandson, Jack Thomas Miller of Dallas; an aunt, Gayle Cunningham of San Angelo; and several cousins. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The family extends special thanks to the nurses at Shannon Hospital 5 North, VistaCare Hospice, Becky Little, Sammye Stone, Beth Bailey and all of the special friends that helped the family during Farrell's final days. Also, the family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, 7979 Wurzbach, Zeller Bldg, Suite Z413 San Antonio, TX 78229-4427.
