
Betty Davis passed from this life to the next on October 21, 2012. Betty was born in Seymour, Texas on September 17, 1925. She grew up in Spur, Texas and graduated from Spur High School. She enjoyed lifelong friendships with the Spur group. Betty attended the University of Texas where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree. Betty started her teaching profession in Sterling City, Texas. It was there that she met her husband W.C. “Bill” Davis. They were married for 57 years when Bill passed away in 2004. While married, Betty and Bill traveled extensively and were so blessed to be able to spend time at their mountain home in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. They spent several months a year there enjoying golfing, riding snow mobiles and living life to the fullest. Betty taught at Central High School for 21 years and always found something to love and respect in each one of her many students. After retiring, she still continued to pursue her love of people and education by volunteering in the San Angelo Adult Literacy Program. Betty was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 47 years. During those years, she taught Sunday School to the youth, served on numerous boards and commissions and attended #12 Walk To Emmaus. Betty was involved with Meals for the Elderly, the Historic Preservation Board of San Angelo and Shannon Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, several bridge clubs, lunch clubs and dance clubs. Some of her favorite activities were traveling, playing bridge, entertaining and dancing. She loved watching football (especially those Longhorns). Betty Davis was a positive, fun and gracious lady. She lived a joyful and blessed life. Betty Davis is survived by her sister, Jean Woodrum of San Angelo; two daughters, Gail and husband Bill Stanton of Petersburg, Texas; and Donna and husband Carroll Moody of San Angelo; grandson Tyler Stanton, his wife Allyson and their son Valdon of Abernathy, Texas; and special cousins, the Durhams of Sterling City and other wonderful cousins. Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Nathaniel Hankins. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
