Velma Clestine Christofoletti (Nichols)

February 28, 1943 - December 7, 2013

Velma and her brother Ronnie, Class of ‘63, were born to deaf parents.  Ronnie says that he and Velma both learned sign language early on, but as kids they didn’t get away with anything because their parents were good at reading lips, and they were very strict.

Following graduation from Lee, Velma and her husband James, whom she met when he was stationed in the Air Force in San Antonio, moved to Washington state where they have lived since 1965.  At the time of her death, Velma was living in Graham, Washington in the shadow of Mt. Ranier which is southeast of Seattle.  Ronnie says that you could see Mt. Ranier from her front porch and that they were also greatly affected by the ash from Mt. St. Helens in 1980.

Velma was a stay-at-home mom all her life.  She and James had two children and 2 grandchildren.  Ronnie says his sister really loved to be around children and that Velma and her husband and family enjoyed camping and fishing in the area.

Velma passed away on December 7, 2013 due to complications from diabetes.
