Mark Rensmeyer

October 28, 1946 -  February 7, 2000

Mark Erwin Rensmeyer

Mark was very active in extracurricular activities in Lee.  He was one of two sports editors of the Traveler as well as football manager and track manager.  He was also in the Art Club and Spanish Club and received the Optimist Youth Award in his senior year.  Mark was also an Eagle Scout, and his father was very involved in scouting.

Following graduation from Lee, Mark attended Texas A&M for one year before transferring to South West Texas in San Marcos where he received his degree.  At that point he enlisted in the Army where he was a lieutenant stationed at the White Sands Missile Base.  After his military service, he received a graduate degree in computer science from UTSA.  Mark spent several years working at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio before going to work for Data General in Dallas where he worked in technical support and later sales.  In later years he worked solely for a mom and pop business which used Data General technology.

Mark met his wife Janet in Dallas in 1982, and they were married in 1984.  Together they had two boys Kyle and Brant who are now 26 and 23.  Both boys are graduates of Texas A&M.  Janet says Mark would be very proud that his sons were Aggies.  The boys were only 12 and 9 when Mark passed away.  Wife Janet works for a senior living facility which provides skilled nursing services.  She remembers what great fun they both had at the Lee ‘64 20th Reunion.

Janet describes Mark as a computer nerd, but he had many other interests.  He was a wine connoisseur and was particularly interested in California cabernets, plus he enjoyed brewing beer.  He was also interested in Native American Indians, and he loved music.  In addition, Mark was an avid cyclist, cycling about 2000 miles a year.

Mark had one brother Neal, Class of ‘66, who passed away in 2004.  Mark died on February 7, 2000 from cancer.  He was 53.
