The following is Jann's obituary as published in the Santa Fe New Mexican
JANN A. KLINE Born August 1, 1945 ~ Died October 21, 2011 Lost love is never gentle in the weeping and in the grieving, nor is life gentle in the living, nor death in the dying. My beloved Jann, my sweet and loving wife, died unexpectedly in her sleep at home. And so she has departed into the mystic, into the continuum of all living things, as she believed. May it be so. Jann was 66 years old and had not been well for several years, yet she remained active in our home and family and continued to guide our company until the last day of her life. Her love and her courage, undaunted. Sweet Jann, a true angel of love, Queen of my heart, stood by my side for twenty-seven years, in all weather, never afraid of challenges, always full of hope. We had a miraculous life together, a romantic myth to us, and our quest. We never ceased to hold close the wondrous fate of two lovers long lost to each other in their youth, then found again, the flame still burning. We recaptured the past and believed in a future that came to be. On the night of Jann's death, I looked to the sky and asked for a shooting star, and suddenly it was there, like a smile that flashed into the starry night. How lucky we were to believe in the miracles of our life together. Mourning Jann's passing and celebrating her life, our dear and loving children and grandchildren: Tara Sasser Kitzmiller of Cincinnati (husband Matt; son, Ethan); Mitchell Sasser of Futeleufu, Chile (wife, Tati; daughters: Vianne, Pia, and Sol); Jarrett Sasser of Santa Fe & Pecos (wife, Glory; daughter, Jaiden; sons: Teo and Rex); Dia Kline of Niwot, CO (daughter, Astrid Slavin); and Aren Kline of Santa Fe, an artist and writer. Jann's loving parents, Bob and Jidge Arbogust; and brother, Jeff Arbogust and family, of Austin, TX and elsewhere, also survive her and cherish her memory. Jann Kline's active life in Santa Fe included: Partner and CFO, Fred R. Kline Gallery (1988-2011), and Co-Chair (with Jane Bagwell) of the hugely successful 2001 Buckaroo Ball. In Austin, Texas during the 1970s and 1980s, during her first marriage to the late Terry Sasser, Jann became a pillar of the cultural and charitable community as a leading fundraiser and gala organizer for a wide range of non-profit organizations. Yet first and foremost, Jann was a dedicated and creative mother of three loving children. Her many positions in Austin included: VP of Development, Austin Symphony Orchestra Society, and Chairman, Annual Fund Drive, KLRN-PBS. Her public service was always accomplished in true humility and with a loving helpfulness. At KLRN, while still an undergraduate at the University of Texas, she was the television station's first Weather Girl and acted in several televised plays by Horton Foote. In 1968, she graduated with a B.A. in Economics. At MacArthur High School in San Antonio, class of 1963, she graduated at the top of her class, was on the swimming team, the lead in many plays, a "Bramadora" cheerleader, played in the band, and was elected to all the Honor Societies-an All-American girl if ever there was. We first met one summer day in the Trinity University swimming pool at the beginning of her Senior year in high school; Jann appeared from underwater, a mermaid glittering in the sun, my darling girl, then and always-it was a lifelong epiphany for us both. Throughout her life, Jann had a great passion for art and art history and she had a rare eye and talent for connoisseurship. As an artist, her paintings and photographs rose to a high quality of originality and beauty, yet she chose not to exhibit them. As the chef in our kitchen, Jann made every meal a banquet and touched it with love. Jann Kline's style and beauty, her grace and intelligence, her loving life- IN MEMORY. There will be no formal service. Jann's ashes will be scattered with family present, as she wished, into the land and sky at 7th Heaven Ranch, our home in the Pecos River Valley.
