Obituary
Samuel Rayner Kopecky, age 56, died (peacefully) at his home in Te Puru, New Zealand on September 21, 2001 following a long battle with prostate cancer. He was educated at Douglas McArthur High School, San Antonio; San Antonio Junior College, and the University of Texas, Austin, where he was awarded a B.S. Pharmacy in January 1969. He was then associated with both the pharmacy and automobile industries in San Antonio and Austin, until his relocation to his New Zealand-born wife's home in 1988. A Multi-cultural Memorial Service was held at his home, 'Te Puru Coast View Lodge', on September 25, 2001 where tributes were paid to this well respected 'Texan'' by members of both the New Zealand Maori and European local communities. The American Flag was flown at half- mast at the nearby Te Puru School. He is survived by his wife, Pam; daughter, Amanda of Te Puru, New Zealand; as well as sons, Sam Kopecky Jr., Dr. Craig Kopecky and Scott Kopecky, all of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Laurie Thomas of Longmont, CO; six grandchildren; brothers, Joe Kopecky, San Antonio, TX, Tom Kopecky, Plano, TX, Dr. Charles Kopecky, Houston, TX and sister, Beulah Hughston, Niceville, FL
