Mike was a quarterback on the Brahama football team back in 1963.
Fast forward to the 70's, we both worked in the Judson Independent School District., he as a principal of an elementary and I as journalism teacher at Judson High.
Next time I saw him, he was superintendent at, I believe, Lackland ISD, while I served on the school board in Quinlan. We would see each other at school board conferences in San Antonio, reminisce some, then fade off into our assigned seminars.
I'm not sure what happened, but it was a surprise when I saw his name in the memories section.
Mike's family and mine were across-the-street neighbors from 1957 through high school. Later I would run into him occasionally (at college, at the reunions, at HEB, with a phone call, or pie and coffee now and then).
I worked for Mike for a couple years in the 80's when he was Superintendent of Schools @ Lackland ISD.
He was a "good guy". He enjoyed life, was friendly, funny, and was always a gentleman.
I also saw Mike a few times after high school days, Diana and he were good freinds and she would cut his hair. And a few years later while he was at Lackland ISD I think in the early 80's and he had taken up golf so we played a few times together there in San Antonio. He was very good at golf quick (he said by watching it on TV) and then he moved to Austin about the time I did in the late 80's and he was I think the Asst.Pro. at one of the golf course up there. I lost contact with Mike right after that, so like Bill Slaughter said, I was very surprise to see he had passed a way. Mike, wish we had one more round of golf.
