Dr. Jerry Felix Perez

Dr. Jerry Felix Perez, a devoted husband, father, educator, and technology innovator, passed away on March 14, 2025, in Rowlett, Texas, at the age of 52. Born at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Jerry was a lifelong learner whose passion for technology began with a Commodore 64 and grew into a distinguished career in high-performance computing, information systems, and cybersecurity. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian University and later earned a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University.

Jerry's professional accomplishments included pioneering work in Grid Computing and High Performance Computing. His contributions earned him the New Technology Award from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce in 2005, and his expertise led to a visiting professorship in China in 2016. He was also recognized as a National Science Foundation Trusted Cyber Infrastructure Security Fellow. At the time of his passing, he was working at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas to advance high-performance computing for medical research.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was a devoted husband and father, a mentor and advisor to his siblings, and an exceptional professor who was passionate about helping students of all ages and backgrounds succeed. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, marksmanship, the outdoors, science fiction, technology, and the nostalgia of 1980s and 1990s arcades. His faith was also an important part of his life, and he was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Jerry is remembered as a loving, kind, and intelligent man whose life was marked by family, faith, intellectual curiosity, and a generous commitment to helping others. His passion for learning and technology, combined with his dedication to his students and family, left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Funeral Mass was held March 21, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
