Share a memory that could only have happened because of where you were.
In 1950, My father was in the states doing postgraduate study at UNC Raleigh. My mom, my infant brother Daniel and I (2 yr old!!) had to evacuate Seoul on zero notice because the Communists were coming to take over the city. We spent the whole day at the train station trying to get on trains going out of the city but my mom held us back because of the crowds. Finally we were forced to get on THE LAST TRAIN for that day. It was a freight train and the three of us were pushed ON TOP OF the freight car Because there was no more space inside the car. We rode lying down facing down on that car to Pusan at the southern coast. I do not remember the details of where we stayed or how long (remember I was 2.5 yr old). Back then there was no internet, no smart phones. Somehow my father came back from the US when news got out about Seoul having been evacuated, and by knocking on doors, found us in Pusan. Eventually,when it was safe, we went back to Seoul. I believe that was 1953.
