In Memory

Michael Grove

He died a few years after graduation. I do not know the specifics or can I remember the details. But I know his family was heartbroken and it was very sad for everyone who lived in his neighborhood.

Mike Grove left us on 7/26/1987. Mike was a close personal friend of mine. We played in bands during my years in San Diego. Mike was an exceptional drummer. The best that I have ever played with.  Some of the most best memories I have with Mike was playing... i.e Nobody's fault but Mine (LZ), Rock n Roll(LZ), Fire, (Jimi Hendrix) and numerous other songs. He was incredible as a drummer. The last time we saw each other was in 1981. Mike  opened for Micky Ratt, later to become the band Ratt at a club in Clairmont. He later did work with Jake E Lee ( Teaser , later a guitartist with Ozzy Osbourne ( Bark at the Moon). Mike gave me my first job at 15yrs as a BusBoy at the San Diego Country Club. We used to drive in his VW Bug to practice in Escondido( hot , sweaty scene) and play astroeds at the skate park at Lake Murray Parkway while looking for girls. Mike had personal demons that unfortunately were to great for him. God Bless Mike and his family. Mike Walior, MBA , Austin Texas

Mike was a dear, sweet and close friend. I found out about his passing some time after and felt cheated that I was not able to be there at his funeral and with his family.  He felt so deeply about everything - music, people, friends, life. His writings to me in my yearbook were heart-wrenching in that - years later - they clearly showed that he was struggling to stay with us in this world. God bless his soul and his family. He left us much too soon. Laurie Bianchi
