In Memory

Carola Garcia (Lemke)

Our Class of 1969 President, Carola Garcia Lemke, passed away November 21, 2007 in Austin after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was a great class president, always expecting the best from all of us while demonstrating excellence in everything she did. She had a beautiful soul and a sparkling personality, and that twinkle in her eyes that spoke of her wonderful sense of humor.

Juanita Carola Garcia  was born and raised in San Diego, Texas. Carola moved to Austin in 1969 after graduating from San Diego High School to attend the University of Texas. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech in 1972, she went to work for the Austin Independent School District as a speech pathologist at Dawson Elementary. Wanting to expand her career options, she completed her Master's degree in Education at the University of Texas in 1978, and also received her administrator's certification from Southwest Texas State University. In 2001, she accepted employment with the University of Texas Charter Schools and served as principal of several campuses until her retirement at the end of March 2007.  Carola became a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women in Education in 2001 by being initiated into the local Zeta Eta Chapter. She served on the Executive Board of the Zeta Eta Chapter. Carola was also currently serving on the board of Southwest Educational Development Laboratory.   Carola touched the lives of many students and their parents and was a mentor and friend to many teachers and fellow administrators. Carola was a very loving, caring individual, always thinking of the comfort and welfare of others. She will be greatly missed.

Her classmates will always remember her warm and caring smile, great personality and that go-getter spirit that made her so special.

Informed them of the memorial tribute that we are having for them at the class reunion on 10-31-2009. They thanked me for letting them know., and told them to expect an invitation with all the details of date, time, and place. I also suggested for a family member to bring with them a photo to the event.
