Family, friends and fellow public-safety personnel gathered yesterday to remember the impact Lake of the Woods security officer Elizabeth "Beth" Leizear made in life and death.
Leizear, 37, died Tuesday from injuries suffered in a single-car accident on Lakeview Parkway in the Orange County subdivision early Sunday.
An officer for Dodson Security, she was responding to a request when her car skidded on the wet road and hit a tree.
Lake of the Woods Church Pastor Thomas Schafer commended Leizear's "dedicated service" to the community and told of her "gift of life."
After her accident, he said, she lay in the intensive-care unit with no hope of recovery while another family waited for a new heart for their young daughter.
"Beth gave her heart so another person could have life," he said.
Along with family and community members, the service was attended by officers from Dodson Security and LOW Fire and Rescue personnel. John Leizear, her husband, is a volunteer firefighter for the LOW unit.
The 100 or so who gathered at the Lake of the Woods Church to pay their respect also included fire and EMS personnel for Orange County, and law-enforcement officers from the county, Fredericksburg, Aquia Harbour, the National Park Service and Virginia State Police.
An honor guard from Chancellor Fire and Rescue participated in the service.
Several members of John Leizear's family belong to the Red Knights, a motorcycle club of firefighters based in Maryland. They joined the procession of fire and rescue trucks that brought the Leizear family to the services.
In addition to her husband, Leizear is survived by two daughters, Brooke and Kaitlyn, and many other relatives in the area.

Beth Leizear
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, Elizabeth Diana "Beth" Leizear departed this life to be with the other angels.
Beth Leizear was gravely injured on Sunday, Sept. 28, in an automobile accident while responding to a call for her community while at work for Dodson Security Agency. Beth took absolute pride in wearing her uniform and answering her community's calls for help.
Born in Burbank, Calif., March 10, 1971, Beth moved to Virginia with her husband in 1994, after his enlistment in the Air Force was up. She quickly adapted to the Virginia way of life. She embraced it, and in no time could anyone have guessed that she was California-born and raised. Beth was an outstanding and devoted mother, wife, employee and friend to many.
She leaves behind her husband of 14 years, John, who is a member at Lake of the Woods Fire Company 29; and two precious daughters, Brooke and Kaitlyn, who were her life.
Her presence will forever be felt by all those she has known and touched through her years as a resident of Lake of the Woods and Orange County.
Beth was an avid Redskins fan, as well as a racing fan, whether it be NASCAR, NHRA or the local dirt tracks.
Beth thought of others before she ever thought of herself, and she proved this again as she had one more selfless act she performed before she left our earthly world. Beth held on long enough to donate her heart to a young girl in need of a transplant.
She will forever be remembered by her family, peers and her husband's fire company that responded to her call for help on Sunday. Beth has answered her final call and can now rest peacefully, knowing she did a fine job protecting and serving her family, friends and community. "We will always love and miss you, sweetheart."
The family wishes to thank L.O.W Fire Station members for their unwavering support and kindness in helping John and the girls through this tragic time in their lives. Not once did they leave the families alone at the accident scene or at the hospital, providing 24-hour-a-day coverage until Beth's passing
They want to also thank the Virginia State Firefighters Association, Engine Co. 23, Engine Co. 21, and all the other Fire Companies that have rallied around them to wrap them in love and support.

About Beth
Born March 10th 1971 in Burbank California, Beth was a smiling happy baby girl. She spent her entire childhood life in and around Southern California. She graduated from San Dimas High School in 1989 and move shortly thereafter to northern California to be closer to her Father Ed, and her Sister Heidi. This is where I meet Beth for the first time, while I was stationed at Beale Air Force Base.
Beth captured my interest almost immediately. Her smile radiated charm and personality. Her laugh was infectious and would make even the hardest personality crack a smile. Beth was friends with my next door neighbors at the dorms. We had a shared bathroom, and the first time we meet she walked in on me getting ready for a shower, she thought it was the funniest thing ever, I wasn't so amused. We struck up a great friendship that eventually lead us to becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. I was in awe of this carefree spirit, and beautiful young woman. I never had a problem with the ladies, but this girl made me shake in my boots. We would spend our time doing lots of things in the early days, late night coffee at the local Dennys, camping at the nearby lake, swimming and cooking out at the Yuba River, playing pool at the Base Bar was a favorite thing to do on weekends, we always teamed up against everyone else, and she was a hell of a pool player I might add, anything we could do to just be around eachother. I felt special around Beth, and I always did my best to make her feel the same. She was everything to me.
Eventually I got up the nerve to ask Beth to Marry me, but I of course went to her Father first to ask his blessing. I remember like it was yesterday, going and buying that ring. I thought long and hard of a unique and grand way to ask this amazing woman to Marry me, but it seemed as though nothing would be good enough in my mind. I decided to make it simple, I took her out to one of our favorite Italian Restaurants, and while we were eating, she had the spaghetti by the way, I got up then knelt beside her. She started crying right away. I softly grabbed her hand looked her in those beautiful brown eyes and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. She never really answered, she just hugged me so tight I thought she would break some ribs. This was in August of 1993, and by February of 1994 we were Mr and Mrs Leizear, and I couldn't have been more proud to call Beth my Wife.

How terribly sad that we have to lose another member of our class. Beth was a great friend! We recently reunited, thanks to MySpace. She loved her daughters, they were her world! I became a little concerned when I hadn't heard from her in a while, and figured she was just busy with working and being a mom. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I think she was no longer with us.As they say, "The heart will go on". Beth's literally is going on, thanks to the unselfishness of her and her family, as her heart was donated to save another girl's life.
Rest in peace, Beth! And know that you are deeply missed. We will see you again.

I was very upset to hear this. I will greatly miss Beth. She was my very best friend in High School. We did everything together. I lost touch with her after graduation though. I remember hanging out with her and just sitting and talking for hours. she was my lifesaver in school. She is a wonderful person and I wish her family all my love. If anyone knows her sister's phone number or address please drop me a note. I would love to get in touch with her. Jessa
