Chris Tinley - Class Of 1983

Christopher John Tinley, age 53, of Council Bluffs, passed away, April 3, 2014, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Chris was born, April 2, 1961, in Council Bluffs, to Emmet and Jeanne M. (Stech) Tinley and graduated from Creighton Prep High School in 1979. Chris also graduated from the University of San Francisco and Creighton University Law School and practiced law with the firms Root, Tinley, Sondag, Kelly & Lehan and his own Tinley Law Firm. Chris served as the Assistant County Attorney in Mills County and was the former Pottawattamie County Chairman for the Democratic Party like his father Emmet II before him. Chris was united in marriage to Cindy Doody in Omaha on June 20, 1998.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmet and Jeanne Tinley; brothers, Timothy in 1973, Michael in the World Trade Center; sisters, Mary Ann Smith in 2006, and Kathy Payne in 2010; in-laws, Mary Jo and James Doody.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; and their son, Joel Tinley, of Council Bluffs; daughter, Lauren Tinley; and son, John Tinley; and their mother, Lisa Walker Sekundiak; brother, Emmet Tinley III and wife, Sue (Ternus); sisters, Jeannie Gilmore and husband, Bob, of Omaha, Neb., Suzanne Tinley Fishkin and husband, Charles, of New York; sister-in-law, Sue Keegan and husband, Dan; brother-in-law, Mike Doody and wife, Kathy; sister-in-law, Terri Young; cousins, nieces, nephews.

Wake service Sunday, 2 p.m., followed by visitation until 4 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, 1 p.m., St. Patrick's Church. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery followed by luncheon at the Council Bluffs Country Club. Memorials are suggested to St. Albert, St. Patrick's Church, Hospice of Southwest Iowa, Creighton Prep and Creighton University. Chris will be remembered for his zest for life, love of family, golf and his beloved Creighton Bluejays.
