In Memory

Jo Ann Bockstall (Tombow)

JoAnn Bockstall (Tombow) was my lifelong, special friend and was like the sister that I never had.  JoAnn was born on Halloween, October 31, 1951.  We met in kindergarten, 1956, and became fast friends.  Because we were so close and communicated all the time, McKinley Grammar School administrators rarely assigned us the same teachers as we would talk too much!  School was easy for JoAnn as she was quite itelligent. Together we enjoyed a Brownie Troop and Girl Scout Troop where JoAnn's mom, Pat, was the leader and my mom was the co-leader.  I learned early on that JoAnn was a very loyal friend and she was a very honest person who could be trusted.  JoAnn was artistic and had a flair for drawing and sewing. She was a roller skating princess and could gracefully manuver quite well on the floor of the Shamrock Roller Rink in San Gabriel.  We were each others maid of honor at our respective weddings.  JoAnn loved her family dearly and after marriage was blessed with two sons, Greg and Ryan. She lived in the San Gabriel Valley until around 1990 when she, her husband, Jeff Tombow and sons moved to Careywood, Idaho, located in the panhandle.  She lived out in the country happily and owned horses, cats, birds and dogs.  Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly February 12, 2019, of heart failure.  She is survived by her sons, husband and brother, Jimmy.

I truly remember Jo Ann during my McKinley days as well as in Brownies and Girl Scouts.  Both she and her mom, Pat, were so nice and I would have such fun play days with her and Sally Snyder.  I was saddened to learn about Jo Ann's death at our 50th Reunion.
