Favorite Teachers Posted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 09:08 AM 009313_01531723_cullenjohn.jpg Through the hallways of Terra Linda High School we discovered that there were some classes we held close to our hearts. Whether those classes were Sewing, Home Economics, English, Math, or Physical Education, we were met by a group of teacher that held us accountable to the highest standards . In my time at Terra Linda people like Mrs. Rocha, Ms. Russell, Ms. Clark, Mrs. Burns, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Yamagata, Mr. Payan, Mr. Matthews were all instructors who set the bar high and wouldn't accept anything less than our best. These folks were the key to molding what we would become down the paths we would travel. Teachers they were, Leaders they were, Mentors as well. People we probably never got to thank correctly . We have carried out their dreams, that we would all become the teachers, leaders and mentors. The cycle continues as we all travel our paths, mentoring, teaching, and leading our children, our friends children, grandchildren, employees, follow employees, The list goes on and on, We have all become Leaders, Teachers and Mentors like the people before us, We have lived our dreams and theirs. RE: Favorite Teachers Posted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 11:20 AM Well said John. I wish I'd have been a little more aware of this back then. Maybe it would have helped me stay in school, or least do better while I was there. The instructor at TL that most comes to mind for me was Mr. Bedford who taught history. Had him my sophomore year. Despite the fact that I was regularly kicked out of class, mostly for being a smart ass, I've always attributed part of my passion for history to Mr. Bedford. Moreover, he further inspired me, in part, to ultimately obtain a secondary teaching credential with a goal to teach high school history/social science. I got the credential but other than student teaching I haven't spent any time as a teacher. Interesting how as you go through life who it is that has an impact on you, sometimes without even being aware of it. Jim Hersom |

RE: Favorite Teachers Posted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 07:23 PM You know, both of you speak so eloquently to this topic................it's obvious you have both had the opportunity to positively impact others. Nicely done! Russ Russ (or Rusty as the case may be!) |

RE: Favorite Teachers Posted Friday, May 15, 2009 02:02 PM Gordon E. Lowe is #1 on my list, followed by Miss Grebe. In retrospect, I have found that TLH offered an exceptionally high standard of education, in all areas. T Carroll |

RE: Favorite Teachers Posted Thursday, February 17, 2011 12:21 PM I too have fond memories of my Terra Linda teachers. From Coach Starn who gave me a head start in Algebra at summer School, and let me make the C basketball team as a freshman, and Mr Mathews who got me interested in Economics. Went on to major in Economics and minor in Math with the intent of returning to TL to teach. That didn't happen, but I am now teaching Algebra at Heald College in Modesto..just a bit delayed. Band with Mr Lowe was a favorite elective, though I should have practiced more. Most of the Math teachers I had were great. Hopefully some from the 60's will be at the reunion activities in May. |
