Jacqueline Santiago

Jacqueline Santiago

May 9, 1962 ~ September 24, 2009

Jackie was born on May 9, 1962 in New York to Cathy and Cuco Santiago. She is survived by her son, Cameron, whom she loved more than her own life. She had a tremendous love for God. Her favorite Scriptures were Psalms 91 and 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 8.

Jackie also loved music....pretty much all types, 70', 80's, 90's (old school) ;-) and current music as well. Michael Jackson was her all time favorite singer. Her favorite Song was "Coolin Water" by Lee Williams.

A long time resident of Novato, Jackie passed on September 24th, 2009, surrounded by her family. Jackie will be remembered for her sweet smile, infectious giggle and her amazing ability to make others laugh.

Special thanks to Jackie's beloved sister, DeeDee Rayford, for her help with this memory page.

I was deeply saddened by finding out today that Jackie had passed. I will always remember her as the "little puffy faced girl" from elementary school. Jackie had to face adversity from a young age but always did it with that great laugh and beautiful smile. Jackie may you finally be at peace. " We are not victims of aging, sickness and death. These are part of scenery, not the seer, who is immune to any form of change. This seer is the spirit, the expression of eternal being."
RIP Jackie.

I just found out that Jackie passed and it greatly saddens me. She overcame so much adversity during her years and accomplished much. She always had a smile on her lovely face at TL, and laugh and was fun to hang out with at lunch. I was looking forward to seeing her at the reunion next year.
Godspeed Jackie. At least our class has another angel watching over us. Sympathies to her family.

Jackie Santiago what a beautiful, funny, strong, feisty person, I remember fondly her smile her candid way of letting you know what her challenges were her strength, We thought high school was tough, well she made it look like just another walk in the park compared to just a day in her life. I was so happy to read her bio and see she was still ok despite more challenges always positive always looking for the best in everyone and everyday. Her challenges made her appreciate what we take for granted, Let's all challenge ourselves to see the beauty of every minute, every breath, every smile, every human being we share a moment with, every gift of love brought our way, Like Jackie did her memory is priceless and will be cherished forever
love u Jackie

I am dismayed and sad to learn of Jackie's passing. I just happened across it - a bright light with an infectious laugh and sharp wit! She is an example of what "tough" really is, yet she lived her life with joy. I am inspired by her strenght and wish her peace - she is missed.

I'm saddened to hear of Jackie's passing. I remember when she first showed up at Santa Margarita - way back when. She was always sweet and upbeat. I ran into her on occasion around town, here in Novato or down in San Rafael, and she was always had kind words. RIP Jackie.

The Mexican!!! That was my nickname for her and she called me the Jamaican. WE had a ball during high school and I will never forget her. We laughed, we cried, we danced and we were two hot chicks! Well, that's what we thought :) sometimes we laughed so hard we would have to run to the nearest bathroom. I truly miss the Mexican and she will be ever in my heart. Icalled her about a month before she died and we were going to get together the next time I came to Cali, because she was busy taking care of her mom and nursing her back to health. She didn't realize just how sick she, herself was. We never made our lunch date. I will always remember to "do it now!" because later may be too late.

I remember Jackie lived up the street from us but until Chris mentioned it didn't remember she went to SM Elem. I also don't remember her ever not being upbeat and when she laughed her head would swivel around like a bobblehead doll.

I Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV, copy and paste from http://www.biblegateway.com)
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails...

Psalms 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

Jackie may have been small in stature but her personality was larger than life. Always smiling, always laughing, always a joy to be around. She is to be admired for overcoming adversity and reminding us that each day is precious and to be celebrated! I am sorry that she will not be able to join us for the reunion but know that she will be there in spirit - smiling upon us, laughing with us, and celebrating the many lives that intersected during high school. God Bless you Jackie.

Jackie and I reconnected on facebook last June.  We had been trying to get together as she had missed our 6/19 LNO and she wanted to give me photos she had of my brother-in-law, David, and Mario Caldarazzo at one of our camping trips.  They have both passed away, and she knew I would treasure having them.  For a couple of months we tried to set a date for me and Stephanie to go visit her at her home in Novato.  Her mother had fallen very ill, and she never mentioned her health issues.  Then, in September I could not believe what I had heard.  Jackie had passed away.  This was such sad news.

Jackie has taught many of us to be strong, be happy, live in the moment, and now to not take anything for granted and to live each day to the fullest.  I now do my best to not put anything that is important to me off until tomorrow.

Jackie was always so caring and thoughtful and fun and so happy.  She had that adorable smile with her cute little cheeks and a contagious laugh.  I am grateful for all the memories I have of Jackie.  She is very missed by many.

May she rest in peace and know that she is surrounded by love.

From Jackie in one of the last messages she sent to me:

 "It would be great for us all to get together, I hope I can be there, when the time comes.  I send my Love to everyone hope to see you soon. Jackie"
