I had learned of Dan's passing soon after one of the numerous memorial services held in his memory, this one locally at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Novato, where he and I were confirmed at the end of our freshman year at TLHS. He resided with his partner in San Francisco, and was widely respected and admired amongst a wide circle of friends and colleagues. Although I had not kept in touch with Dan ("Danny") during his later years, I understand that he remained a passionate advocate for social causes until his passing. My friendship with Danny dates back to early childhood, and I recall his opinionated passion from the early days! Now, I remember him with gratitude and fondness.
Dan and I met in Kindergarten and became friends. We lost touch for a while while I was imprisoned in Catholic School (St. Isabellas) but then connected again at T.L. Dan could be loads of fun (especially in his dad's old Plymouth Valient) and always rooted for the underdog. As I understand it, after graduating from law school, he worked in the SF juvenile law department representing poor/minority youth offenders. The D.A. who knew him (and often was opposing counsel to him) said he was fantastic at his job and took a genuine interest in every juvenile client he represented...I hope you have found the peace you always sought, my friend...
