I remember George at Valley, always stopping me in the halls to count my freckles. He sort of looked out for me at Santa Ana College, too. Once I was passing on a joke that someone told me without realizing it had a double meaning. When I told the joke to George he kindly told me the "other" meaning and I about died of embarrassment. We had a good laugh over it...eventually. In more recent years, I was able to travel to Washington DC and visit the Viet Nam War Memorial. I looked up where George's name was listed and took a picture.

George and I, although we were never close, had a passing relationship during our time at Valley. Our first encounter was during our time trying out for the sophmore track team. George was a great track athlete who won accolades for the Valley track team. He and Dennis Parker are in my memories as having perished too soon.

Whenever I go to the Vietnam Memorial in DC I always find his name and run my fingers across it... as a reminder of days gone by.

Wherever you're doing George... I know it must have something to do with track and field.

I remember George, even though we didn't run in the same group at school.  I especially remember when I read in the paper about his passing and the letter that was included in the article that had been written to him by the young daughter of his college track (if I remember right) coach.  I still remember the feeling that hit me and the overwhelming sadness and tears that swept over me,  that such a really sweet guy had to leave us so soon.  I can still remember his genuine smile that he flashed at everyone he passed.  I think anyone who knew him even in passing was touched in a positive way by just knowing who he was.  Susan Pulsipher Rogers
