Colette Michelle Tiner
 COLETTE MICHELLE TINER COLETTE MICHELLE TINER age 44 was born in Santa Fe, NM on January 26, 1970 and passed away as a result of a tragic traffic accident on February 7, 2014. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1988 and from UNM in 1992. Colette was a princess on the 1988 Fiesta Court. She worked at Davis Selected Advisers for 18 years. Colette was a loving wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She was a kind, generous, beautiful person whose life was cut too short. She was always helping others and was quick with a smile and a hug. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jake and Lita Gallegos, Cliofes and Martina Herrera, Ben and Maxine Passmore, and Ruth Tiner, uncles, Jake Herrera, Gilbert Martinez, Jake Gallegos Jr. and cousin, Debbie Martinez. She is survived by her husband, Terry Tiner, son, Cal Tiner, parents, Ray and Dolores Herrera, sissy, Tina Herrera (Nelson), brother, John Herrera (Laura) and mother and father-in-law, William and Sharon Tiner. Colette also leaves behind her aunt and Godmother, Martha Herrera and aunts, and uncles, Benny & Patty Passmore, Frances Martinez, Raymond & Josephine Gallegos, Christine & John Sullivan, Colette Herrera, Charles & Priscilla Herrera, Louis & Virginia Herrera, Viola & Lino Garcia, Gloria Herrera, Billy Herrera & Gloria Keahbone, Virginia & Rumaldo Ortiz, Irene Herrera and many special cousins and friends. She is also survived by special friends Yvonne Duran and Geri Lovato from Davis Selected Advisers and Fred Cisneros, Allane Holman, Carmella Segura and the staff at Cisneros Design, Jenny Sandoval and "Uncle" Jimmy Duncan. Colette will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her. Rosary will be Thursday, February 13th at 7 pm at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 511 Alicia St (corner of Hickox and Alicia). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Frank Pretto on Friday, February 14th at 10 am at San Isidro Catholic Center on Agua Fria Street. Terry Tiner, Cal Tiner and John Herrera will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow immediately after at Rosario Cemetery Chapel. A reception at St. Anne's Parish Hall will follow the burial. Two killed in head-on crash at Old Las Vegas Highway

A head-on collision on Old Las Vegas Highway southeast of Santa Fe left two people dead Friday, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victims were identified as 44-year-old Colette Tiner and 70-year-old Larry Chambles, both of Santa Fe.
Chambles was driving a GMC Yukon westbound on Old Las Vegas Highway near the Sunrise General Store when his vehicle “left the roadway” shortly after 11 a.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He apparently overcorrected and crossed into the eastbound lanes of Old Las Vegas Highway, colliding head-on with a Ford Taurus driven by Tiner, the news release said.
Emergency responders said Tiner was dead at the scene. Chambles was transported to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
William Tiner of Santa Fe said Colette Tiner was married to his son, Terry Tiner, for the past 14 or 15 years, and that the two have a 7-year-old son named Cal.
The father-in-law said Colette Tiner worked in the downtown office of the financial firm Davis Advisors. He said she was born and raised in Santa Fe and that she had attended Santa Fe High School before earning a degree from The University of the New Mexico.
Chambles’ daughter, Hattie Kuper, who lives in Texas, said her father was a retired orthodontist who had worked in Santa Fe for more than 20 years. Kuper said her father had sold his interest in the practice to his business partner, Stephen Kellam.
In addition to his wife, Yvonne, of Santa Fe, Kuper’s father also is survived by a brother who lives in Las Cruces.
Maj. Ken Johnson with the sheriff’s office said it’s unclear how fast the vehicles were traveling, but even if they were going the speed limit, 45 mph in that area, a head-on collision would account for the extensive damage to the vehicles. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, he said.
Johnson said he doesn’t know why Chambles’ SUV initially left the roadway. He said an autopsy might reveal more information. Investigators don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
A police alert issued shortly before midday Friday indicated that east and westbound traffic lanes on Old Las Vegas Highway were closed near the Sunrise General Store, 52 Old Las Vegas Highway, but Johnson said the roadway was reopened before the Friday evening rush hour.

Colette was a classmate of mine all the way back to Carlos Gilbert elementary school. We were semi-neighbors for a while when we both lived on Hillside Avenue. I remeber Colette as a sweet and gentle soul. She was soft-spoken and kind to everyone. She was admired and loved by those who knew her. May you rest in peace. There is a place among the stars for you, always. Rest in peace.
