Stephanie was born June 12, 1964 and died June 17, 1979. She died a few days after her birthday and it was on a Sunday, Fathers Day. She drowned in the bathtub while taking a shower. The papers headlined it as a "Freak Accident Claimed Girls Life". She was dating Dennis Thomason at the time and was going to church with him that morning. She never made it. Stephanie is survived by her father and mother, Roy and Melba Jean Potts. She was an only child.
Stephanie loved to write poems. Here is the poem she wrote that is the epitaph on her tombstone:
REFLECTIONS
I look in the mirror and what do I see
Just reflections of you and me
and the way it used to be

If you were in our class I hope you remember Stephanie. She was one of the sweetest people in the world and I loved her and still love her so much. She was one of the best childhood friends that you could share all of your secrets with, be silly with, talk boy talk and just be yourself. I thought the world had ended when she passed away. I still miss her and think about her every day. I take her flowers and wish she was still with us. She will always be a part of who I am. I love you and always will remember you. Your best friend. Kim
