Another of our departed 1965 classmates I had the distinction of knowing was Phil "Gus" Griswold. While I remember Gus from Santa Rosa Junior High School, I did not get to know him to any degree until our Junior Year at SRHS.
After the end of the '63 football season, my assigned P.E. locker was right next to that of Gus. Almost immediately, he did his best to intimidate me, mostly with his favorite weapon, the snapping towel. Gus was at least a couple of inches taller than I, at least 20-lbs. heavier, and I was not inclined to mix it up with him. After a week or so, I'd had enough, rose to my tiptoes and confronted him, risking whatever consequences. From that moment on, he never again harassed me, and we got along quite well.
