I have some very sad news.  I received a call this morning from Nancy Hill, Steve Hill's wife.  Steve passed away on December 9th.  Steve was at home recovering from a heart procedure and his recovery was going well.  Nancy said that he collapsed at home and by the time help arrived he was gone. Steve, Tom Clack and I were the best of friends through junior high and high school.  We did everything together; most of the time we would go places in either Steve's Renault or Tom's VW.  Late in the summer after graduation Steve and I took a trip to Mexico; Steve was on his way to the Army to become a jet mechanic and I was on my way to college.  We had a great time on the trip.  After Steve completed his tour and I graduated from college, he was working a a bus driver at San Francisco International Airport waiting for a opening as a mechanic for United Airlines while I was working as a junior structural engineer in San Francisco.  I got a new job in San Jose and moved to Los Gatos while Steve settled in Vacaville.  Because of the distance Steve and I had less and less contact. It was not until our 50-year class reunion that Steve and I reconnected.  Since the reunion we have kept in contact by phone.  Mariellen and I have also visited Steve and Nancy in Vacaville.  I have no other information about any funeral services for Steve.  As soon as I know and if alright with Nancy and his children, I will let you know.

This has been a very sad day for me.

Sorry to hear of Steve's passing...it is sad for you, Dennes, sad for Steve's family and sad for all those who knew Steve. It is especially sad as Steve will be missed and, also because none of us knows definitely what happens after we leave this earth.  RIP, Steve, wherever you may be and whatever exists (if anything) for you and all of us someday.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Steve's passing.  My husband, John and I just saw him a few months ago in the Ortho clinic at Kaiser, Vacaville.  So far, there has been nothing in the local paper about it.  Please post the place and time for services.  If at all possible, we would like to be there.

R.I.P. Steve.  While I did not know you well, I remember you as a very nice, quiet person.  Condolences to your family and friends.  And, thank you Dennes for sharing the information about Steve's passing and your memories of good times with Steve.

I left Montgomery High half way through our junior year to move to Redding.  It's sad to leave the town you grew up in and to feel you're leaving all your friends behind.  I remember being especailly sad when I said goodbye to Steve.  As others have said, he was such a good guy with a broad smile and always, always a twinkle in his eye....a positive force. That will continue to be my memory of Steve no matter how many years go by. Rest in Peace, Steve.

I want to add my thoughts about Steve....I remember a warm, happy guy, wonderful athlete and good friend.  I reconnected with Steve after one of our reunion, I can't remember which one, and it was wonderful to see him again.  I know our high school reunions are not something all our classmates want to attend but, I so happy that both Dennes,Steve, and so many others, came to our 50th and were able to reconnect..  We were so fortunate to have a such a great group of classmates and it's very special that we can get together every 5 years.  My thoughts are with Steve's family, we've all lost a great guy!

From Dennes Furia:

I talked to Nancy Hill. She said that Steve was cremated and his ashes were placed at his family’s original residence in Kenwood. She said that they will be having a gathering to celebrate Steve life in the spring and that she will make an announcement for the date, time and location. As soon as I know I will let you know..
