Robert P. Brown, 49, was born in Washington D.C. on April 8, 1959 and was called home to Jesus on October 12, 2008 due to cancer.  Mr. Brown attended the University of Florida and Manatee Community College, achieving his AA degree. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree. He continued to be active with the USF alumni and was a passionate Bulls fan. He enjoyed an extensive career as a Certified Public Accountant and banker and was proud of his 23-year career with Sunshine State Federal Savings & Loan, serving as its Executive Vice-President and CFO.


Mr. Brown was the Secretary and Treasurer of the South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation Board, a South Florida Baptist Hospital Keystone Circle member, and a Co-Chairman of the Boys & Girls Club of Plant City. He was a founding member of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County and made children's issues a priority in his life, founding the Christmas for an Angel program and serving as the Chairman of the Kiwanis Youth Services Committee. He served as Kiwanis President twice, was a founding Director of the Daybreak Kiwanis Club, was a Director with Kiwanis Club of Plant City and was recently honored with Kiwanis Lifetime Membership.


He was active with the Plant City Chamber of Commerce and had served as the Chairman. He served as a Boy Scout troop leader and was active with the First Baptist Church of Plant City. Mr. Brown donated and participated in a variety of causes including African-American Scholarship Program, Black Heritage Festival, and Martin Luther King Jr. Festival. He enjoyed his role as emissary for the City of Plant City, reading proclamations at various events, including Shiloh Baptist Pastor Joe Bowles recent honorarium. He served for many years as the CPA for the Little Miss Plant City and supported the Jr. League of Plant City.  Mr. Brown served as campaign treasurer for State Representative Rich Glorioso for many years, ultimately conducting his own political campaign, "What can Brown do for you," winning a seat as a Plant City Commissioner and serving as Vice-Mayor.


Robert is predeceased by mother, Janice Booy Brown. He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife Judy Miles Brown; step-sons Richard Matthew Traugott and James Arthur Traugott; step-daughter Katherine Marie Adams and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Warren Robert Brown and step-mother Florence Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; former wife Wendy, son, Andrew Paul and daughter, Pamela Suzette Barrett, his brother Daniel and sisters, Linda Goddard, Judy Mullen, Nancy Babin and a very large extended family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Kiwanis Club of Plant City in care of the Robert P. Brown Memorial Scholarship or LifePath Hospice of Hillsborough County.
